Bought a pair of very nice NOS peanut turn signals for my 61 vert here on Samba, boxed Hella items.

Never seen a a set like these before, the chrome covers and lenses are the usual style, the bulb holder and rubber gasket are unusual, having single screw mount, spring loaded terminal to grip wire end, no boot on the gasket and the reflector is grooved.

Googling the Hella part # I found two more sets:

Set sold on Samba
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1162340

Pair for sale
http://www.pre67vw.com/classifieds/detail.aspx?id=5672

The second set comes with installation instruction. I curious if these could be accessory turn signals to perhaps update semaphore equipped cars? Any ideas or can some light be shed on them, any suggestions?

Just curious.......

With the flat base gasket, my guess is that a parts importer bought those from Hella as general purpose marker lights and then chose to put a VW part number on the box.

I often see this type on euro gray market cars. Super easy to install and no need to drill that big ass hole to mount it up.

I have a set of these ‘fat’ peanut turn signals but need some rubbers for them, any leads appreciated 👍

I have one of these too. I thought it was odd that my left and right signal guts were different, but the other parts matched--but then nothing in my Bug matches! I just figured it was from an earlier bug, but have not found this as an option when searching for a replacement.

… they were installed at the USA ports, for Euro cars with semaphores - not always installed in the same location as actual peanuts - WE old schoolers referred to them as "PUFFS".. BACK IN THE DAY...not worth much -

I fully agree with zenvwdriver- They're a conversation piece for your parts display case in the garage. If you look close the chrome shell is identical to the '58 only unit. Hella likely very quickly learned that shaping a peanut without the frontal recurve is easier to stack- requiring easier packaging and smoother lines. The gaskets are unobtainium and the lens is a hen's tooth in a haystack.
