I am looking at a bus that has had the original steel Westfalia roof replaced with a Sunroof model roof as the gutters were rotten.

For a 73 Model year was it correct to have the sunroof model fitted - will all of the furniture fit in height wise and is the hole in the roof in the correct place?

This is a UK RHD model

normally sunroof models rot from the inside out even in dry climates. Humidity condenses inside the metal sandwich from the cold outside, and over time it eats away where the spot welds are. Make sure that top hasn't been painted in the last two or three years to be sure that rust isn't covered with bondo and paint.

1968-1973 Westfalias with the full pop top option were based on a sunroof bus without the mechanisms or sliding panel installed, are you sure someone hasn't just removed the fiberglass pop top? Or did it begin life as a hard top with no roof opening?

The M code plate behind the LF seat will tell you how it came from the factory.
