In my continuing search for a van to buy, I came across a 1995 Eurovan camper 5-speed manual tranbmission with 150,000 miles with a 2.4 diesel engine.

Does anyone have having thoughts or experiences with diesel engines in this configuration?

I think those are naturally aspirated IDI engines, which means they're probably pretty reliable, but not very powerful. Parts might be tricky to locate here in the states, since the last NA five cylinder diesel imported here was in the early '80's Audi 5000s

Is it cleanly imported and registered here in the US already?

The 2.4L AAB engines are an excellent engine. They're not a powerhouse at 78hp but they're "tractor simple". Parts are readily available here in Canada. I believe there may be some US suppliers who stock items too.

I would want to know when the last timing belts (there is 2) were replaced. These AABs are IDI and very similar to the old 1.6L TDs. They were actually, more or less, an AAZ with one extra cylinder. They share many accessory engin pieces with the AAF and ACU T4s.

Share some pics and we can further add comments.
