Thanks guys. I appreciate it. I am learning as I go as well. Its just metal so if you mess up, and you will - you re do it over and you will get it right. I believe anybody can do it.

Great pictures slim, i found your posts from Burlyhammer’s project thread. I love the detail pictures, really helps me out with my 59 metal replacement.
For your doglegs, what made you decide to just use the small patch piece? My driver dogleg is nice enough on the outside for me to use that front piece also, but the inner is rusted towards the back. I was thinking about replacing the front and entire inner.....if I’m doing all that, should I just replace the whole leg? Passenger side has crash damage so i have to do the whole thing over there. Driver B pillar is damaged at the latch and rotten at the bottom, so i will be using the belt line height pillar piece from Klassic Fab.
Thoughts? |

Hi Dave.
It really depends on the original dogleg’s condition and what your intentions with the bus are. I almost did a complete replacement but since he is keeping the original paint, I decided to fix what was necessary.
Yours sounds like a candidate for a full dogleg swap.

Ive had to repair this section on every bus I’ve ever owned. In my searches, no one I know of makes this repair panel. Ive always fixed it with sheet steel like you have, but my typewriter bus there was nearly nothing left. Looks good tho bro! You’ve knocked out several welding projects back to back to back.. I’m exhausted just watching you tear through these things so quick AND doing it on the side. You’ve got excellent welding skills, but your ambition is equally impressive!! Keep on keeping on friend.

| Are you going to leave the dimpled hole shaved? One trick to add it is drill the hole. Find a 12 point socket that fits around the dimple you want to make, put under the metal around the hole and set a ball peen hammer in the drilled hole from the top and tap that with a hammer. Makes a pretty good match. But now the metal is welded it will be harder. |

Look how good that velvet green looks with just your greasy paws touching it. Lol.
That deluxe gerson is selling, I bought another bus off the same people. I got to see it first hand when I picked mine up and they told me he was on the way to get it. I think it’s a buildable bus, but I think they all are lol.

I’ve been waiting on this replacement heater tube. The original was bashed in so I found this one in a buddies rolled parts bus. This is one of the reasons I have been holding off on the new nose skin.
