That's weird! Do you know when that changed? Everything seemed to be consistent as far as condition, padding, material used, etc., and I would not have suspected anything was changed out.

I have pics of a 46 and 48 cars with the cut bar seats. So the concluson was 46-48 with the KdF floor pan should have them, but as always there could be exceptions.

Marcus told here that there were two kind of seats! So yours are the most probably originals!

Okay, great! Good news... Cause I wasn't very exited about hacking this bar out... Very Happy

Only the front seats are done now but I'll follow up when there's a little more progress on the interior.

The original speedo pod isn't finished yet, but for now I've installed a later one here so I could start testing things out...

Here's where I'm at on the popes nose... I ended using a later NOS lens as it seemed most pics showed a moulded lip. I'm still not sure on that? A good friend of mine gave me a hand and we probably spent an hour wondering around the hardware store looking for anything that could help. In the end we got five rivets smashed without damaging anything. Just waiting on a red inner lens from K/N.

I've still got some of that seat fabric available if anyone is in need of it.

Very cool and inspiring! Been watching from the beginning.

One question...is the "satin" sheen of the paint on the early cars due to using left over war time paint? Or is there a different reason?

Also if you read the VW publication 'Changing Lanes' you will see that the conditions in the factory were such that it's a wonder they managed to paint at all.

Here is a link to that book, reading page 79 will give you a clue what things were like when our '46 was produced (27th November 1946). I guess we are lucky it has survived this long!

Wonderful! Wish I could give my split in your hands...

Have you already "contended" with the door window mechanism and rails? For me it is always the most worse work on split beetles, it's easier to do an engine overhaule...

Yes. Sorry, I've been meaning to check back in and update.

Yeah, this part was a pain and something I hadn't done in a while. I started a couple times, but wasn't happy with some of the parts I had. It also turned out the sashes weren't correct and I was waiting on a pair I ordered from Jacek at ww2vw. I ended up using W.W.'s pre '53 hood seal for the scrapers and Jim had already supplied the channel felt and rubber from Ricardo which worked well. I didn't take many pics of the progress, but here's a couple almost finished.

I also got the original speedo pod back from John and installed. Looks great!!

Jim supplied a Bosch battery that came dry. I filled it with some battery acid I got from Napa, charged and ready to go.

The car is getting close to being done. Another late day test drive after sorting out some issues...
