Went to install ThatBusGuy's upgraded alt harness yesterday ('85 1.9) and found the original one routed in a strange way: instead of passing into the engine room at the firewall and proceeding easily to the alternator, it was looped over the lower main coolant hose, like so:
This eats up several inches of harness run and potentially rubs the hose when it could have just gone straight into the engine bay. And this would have been SO easy to avoid (or correct) that it almost seems intentional now.
What am i missing? |

run it not as you found but as makes most sense following these rules:
- shortest distance that can be supported with clamps, tywraps, tape, etc.
- no sharp bends to crack insulation
- away from heat sources, flexing, sharp metal
- no unsupported spans that can vibrate, sag, or get hooked
- mount so it looks GOOD! _________________ -dan
