OK gang, I'm looking for suggestions.

I've had this problem occur three times this summer around the 100 mile mark into a trip.

The car acts like it is running out of gas when the tank is still half full and the level is above the top of the intake screen. When I removed the gas cap to check the level and put it back on the car runs fine.

What could be the problem?

blocked vent in the cap? when you open the cap you let air in so the 'problem' goes away until next time

Like "finster" said, could be blocked vent in the cap.

Here is a vented stock cap : gas fumes go in (see red arrows) and come out through the openings along the edge (see green arrow).

Regards.

Thanks for the photograph. I was wondering how the cap was designed to vent.
