Hi all.
I guess I'll find out once I lower the panel and this may depend on how the van was equipped at the factory but are some or all those G connections unused? On my 1988 Vanagon, I'm looking for 15 positive supply for an OBD interface and a 30 supply for a MIL (malfunction indicator light) and eventually power for an oil pressure gauge.
I'm obviously not familiar with the later style panel but wow; what an improvement over the early style!
Neil.

G2 and G5 should be useful for you. There is no 30 circuit on the G pins and you shouldn't use an always hot 30 for anything without a darn good reason.
Various option harnesses use the G pins but in many cases VW has added a pigtail at the G to allow another option harness to daisy chain to the first harness.

Thanks very much for pointing me to G2, G5 Mark. Though I may add cruise control someday, since this van doesn't have heated seats or cruise control, that circuit could easily handle the added MIL and OBD loads.
No doubt, I'd be careful with where and what I use the 30 buss for. With the ABA engine Motronic engine management (as most do?), the MIL is switched on by a supplied ground from ECU. However. I would fuse the wire from 30 to + of MIL bulb maybe even use a larger wire for future loads.
Or just use 15 positive from S18 and make things simpler.

I assumed you would fuse as necessary but a concern with using circuit 30 is that things connected to it can drain the battery while the vehicle is parked.
So best not to use it unless truly required.

Right. I see. Ya, my "new" Alpine stereo really seems to draw down my aux battery. I re-installed the kill switch for it.
Lots of details in designing new circuits. _________________ 1981 Westy DIY 15º ABA
