I'm definitely a noob, when it comes to VW engines. I pick up a Dune Buggy to rebuild.

When I opened up the case the Crank Shaft was sheared.

The case has an "H" stamped on it, which tells me it's a Type 2 '65 Early Bus 1500. I get a crankshaft for that.

I also got new bearings.

When I put everything in the case, the bearings are solid and locked in, I get about 1/4" play in the axial direction of the crank shaft.

Nothing is on but the bearings and crankshaft.

This seems like a problem to me.

Any help would be great.

The flywheel and 3 shims are what set the axial play. 0.07-0.13 mm.
