I asked this in the barndoor section but thought I may get more response here.

For my build I was going to run a 1776 with a later set up. But just scored a full okrasa set up and was thinking about keeping the vintage vibe with a split case and lowered. But on long hauls I may put the 1776 in. Anyone think the non rgb split case can handle a bus and or a 1776?

"Or" probably yes, "And" I do not think so. G.r.b.'s take a lot of stress away from the gear box. Split crash box transmissions are quite a bit lighter than the newer transmissions "non split"

That's what I was thinking. A light footed okrasa it could probably work out in a bus, but the extra torque of the 1776 may blow it apart.

You should try it and find out, for science. Then let the community know how long it lasted before exploding.

This was done some years ago iirc by someone in Florida.
I think the trick to not trashing a tranny is the driving style. You can break a regular trans in half with a 1600. Evidently. It has been done. Not by me. Or it can last many miles.
If your driving style includes burnouts and dumping the clutch, it is probably it not a good idea.
If you smoothly shift and clutch, it should not be a problem.

You do have to come to a full and complete shop before shifting o to first or reverse, when driving with a split case.

or rev match/double clutch

a split case will be just fine in a bus with an okrasa or 1776.

My hot rodding days are over. Too many tickets and almost loosing my license cured that. Now with a kid slow and steady is more my thing. But would like to be able to keep up with traffic somewhat. I've driven split case bugs so I'm used to the non sync gears.
Thanks everyone. I think I'll give it a shot.

In my bus I am running a stroked 36hp Okrasa engine with a straight axled split case tranny. I have been using this set up for 3 years and and have made 3-4 1K+ mile trips to Florida and this past summer drove it from South Carolina to California and back, 6500 miles total. I have had no issues with this combination.
