With the hundreds of different fuel filler inlets that have been used over the years, I would think that one or more would be a very good replacement for the archic one used on a late Bay that can at times make trying to fill the tank a challenge. Anyone found a more modern filler that is an easy replacement for the OEM setup?

it's not the filler. It is the air trying to get out. There is no proper vent. Some late mustangs had the issue too and they had to modify the tank vent system. To solve the issue one would need to add a vent line.

Would there be any possibility of at least grafting in maybe a short section similar to what the type 3 uses? Like this:

Type 4 uses one similar. It goes back to the top of the tank through a 12mm ID hose and allows air pushing back to loop out of the way.

Of course that also means you need a nipple on the top of the tank too. Ray

that is the basic solution. One would braze or weld an outlet somewhere near the filler at the bottom, and then another up near where the elbow fastens. That combination would allow the air to escape. I somewhat wondered if there would be a way to push a hose down to the tank but stop short of the top by a few inches, then allow the hose to sit high enough in the elbow to be above the gas nozzle. Fixing it so it didn't slide would be hard.

Hmmm....thats kind of a reverse version of what the air bleed hole in the end of the gas pump nozzles to that measure back pressure and cut the pump off. Should work.

You could maybe insert a 1/4 hard tube spot welded into the filler neck...that went right up top and gave another air escape route other than back at the nozzle. Ray
