Hey guys,
Ol' Herb has a 1959 pan, but a 1963 body.
I want to order a carpet kit but want to make sure it fits my specific situation.
Should I order for a '59 or a '63?
Probably going with TMI

From what I recall, the '59 would not have had a passenger footrest and it would have had an extra hole in the firewall carpet for the fuel tap lever whereas the '63 would have a footrest and no fuel tap lever hole. Of course most carpet kits nowadays don't come with the fuel tap lever hole, regardless of what year you're ordering for, so that's unlikely to be a deciding factor. So basically what it comes down to is whether or not you have and wish to keep the passenger footrest or not.

I would bet you could talk with a maker of German square weave kits about a custom order (WCCR and WW). I don't know what TMI "thinks" should be where on your car.

Do '59s have metal trim around the heater outlets?

No, they did not. Carpet binding edge.

Wolfsburg will install the metal trim around the heater outlets on squareweave kits if desired- or they used to.

Slave1pilot, do you want the interior to look more like a 63 or more like a 59?

For the 63 look, you could get a footrest, and your 63 will already have the slot in the firewall to mount it. That would mean buying a one piece rubber mat that would cover the front foot wells and the hump. You would also have a one piece in the back to cover the floor and hump in the back.

For the 59 look, leave the footrest out, and you’ll get two piece mats front and rear, and carpet on the hump.

I think I have all this correct, and you get to choose which one you like!

I was curious so I went to the WW site. If you get their front rubber mat, it looks like you cut the holes for the e brake, shifter, and heat knob.

I was wrong about one thing apparently; the 59 had a separate rubber mat for the hump, not carpet. Sorry!

Maybe I'm reading your most recent post the wrong way, but what you have pictured in the carpet pic isn't a footrest, only the driver's side wear pad. The footrest is the angled metal panel in the passenger footwell as shown in the pic below.
