Hey guys,
I decided to document the process of finding and restoring a Bus for a world overland expedition in a series which I will be posting here.
The aim is to give you guys the opportunity to share the experience with us as we drive from USA to Australia over the next few years.

I'm constantly learning (and failing) with my bus. I'll be the first to admit that there will be mistakes on this build and journey. With your advice and encouragement I hope to minimize those mistakes.
If you would like to get involved with the technical discussion, please check out this thread: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=661841&highlight=

Will you make it? Hell yeah. Will it be easy? Hell no! That's why it's called "Adventure." It's just discomfort recounted at leisure.
Best of luck on your journeys!

I heard we were going to build a wall, I didn't know we built a bridge. |

Breakdowns on the road are inevitable. However, you are now personally aware of and have experienced the consequences of being ill-prepared.
Mistakes on the build are not to be accepted. You know what happened when you accepted 'good enough' or attempted to do something which you have no idea how to do. You literally killed an engine within days because you didn't do it right.
If you don't know, ask and have someone knowledgeable help you/do it for you.
You were lucky on your last adventure- you drove through places which have great familiarity with your vehicle. You will not have that luxury on this trip.
Do it right from the start or you will spend more time on the side of the road that driving down it. _________________ 1973 Standard Beetle

I actually watched the entire video.
You clearly have financial support, so no reason not to do this and give up now (see Poll choice above).
Not sure why you sold/gave away/whatever your last bus since you are now going to need one.
Have you considered a Sportsmobile? |

The bus you want has a 2.0 liter engine & dual carbs.
Did notice you ran around real heavy with the last bus.
You need Type IV torque, or a Subie conversion & parts stash. |

I think you guys will get quite a kick out of the preparations we're making and the build series. Hopefully you wont be too disappointed in our failings.
The next few episodes covers quite a lot of time with the build and some big transformations with our chosen Kombi.
Thanks for watching all. _________________ Around The World in a VW - Follow the Docuseries

honestly, as long as you don't start a go fund me you have my support. If you start a go fund me then you are a mooch taking advantage of others. Sell your travels to Discpvery or Motor Trend Ok, become a Ken Burns, make a million dollars and enjoy life you have my vote 100% - but go fund me I broke down no. Hope you have a successful voyage. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

I'm not voting , however you should be aware that project censored listed the worldwide deterioration of the rule of law as their #1 under reported new story this year ( that includes the Western World ). I would be far more concerned about personal safety than breakdowns ( although they are related ). You are going into areas that are more than unstable with local populations that are negatively indoctrinated towards westerners. Sure there are good people everywhere you go and the information age has polarized opinions globally. It would be safer to drive through Russia, China, Vietnam before hitting the Ozzy wasteland. _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

Why is this a poll??? OF COURSE you got this!
More than almost any other travelers I know (and we know very, very many), I trust in your resilience, intercultural and linguistic skills, and determination to get your vehicle through anything. _________________ 1975 Bus "Big Emma", 1.8 FI, Hydraulic lifters

I understand that land sharks and ocean crocs are to watch out for down there, especially if you break down away from civilization.
If they don't get you the brown snake can sneak up while you are trying to pee at night. 2nd most venomous snake in the world they say.
do enjoy your trip and try not to think about these things. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |
