Wow, congrats on that nose, that turned out really nice! The bus looks perfect.
I guess you did more than just a Krylon job? |
Thanks! I had tower paint mix me up a couple cans of acrylic lacquer spray paint in the original colors

How did you get those wear patterns if I may ask? Fine sandpaper, paint stripper?
Thanks |
Thanks! I noticed during past sessions of color sanding that I have a god given gift for burning through paint so I used the gift to antique the paint. After spraying I wet sanded with 1500 grit then some 1000 and 600 where I wanted to burn through and recreate wear. _________________ 1952 Zwitter

I am really liking this. I have a 60 SC and it will be used as an actual truck (meaning to do truck stuff). I wasn't sure about the WW wheels, but they look good on yours, so I may follow suit, since I plan on using similar tires. A previous post had someone asking if they were cheaper than used OG wheels. In my mind, I can get wheels cheap, but the time I would spend sanding , cleaning, painting, etc, outweighs the need to save a few bucks per wheel and risk one or more having an issue I didn't detect.
I want to raise mine as well. I'm curious about the flipped beam with raised spindles. I can't find raised spindles, and just assumed people were using lowering spindles but flipping them and switching sides. But is flipping the beam neccessary, or was that just for extra lift? Sorry for so many questions (and I realize it was done before you got the bus) but I figured since your bus has exactly what I need to get mine where I want it, I may as well ask here. |

Got some mouse grey layed down on the rockers. It looks semi okay when its in the shop. Not even close when it is outside in the sun. not totally sure what I am going to do.
I got the interior together and in... minus the fridge. Still debating installing the fridge

When I was much younger, I had a 71 with jalousies and bed/jumpseat. I thought I needed a camper, so when I came across a 73 full camper for cheap, I sold the 71 to a friend for almost nothing. I found out that I did not need the full interior. The pop top was nice and the bed was great. Everything else was just clutter. Yours looks useful right now. For me, a small cooler that I could take out was better than a fridge. |

i am with you on the fridge. a LARGE cooler is much better than any fridge. a 160 can cooler will keep your beer cold for days even in 90+ degree weather. Even if you camp with a couple of buddies. And you can put it outside..... _________________ regards

I'm curious about the rim/tire combination. According to the online tire/wheel fitment resources, a 215 tire requires a minimum 5.5" rim width. The WW rims are listed as 4.5". Any fitment issues? |

Compliments to your wife; they look great. I like the color combination between the curtains and upholstery and the greys of the door panels and exterior paint. Good-looking bus all around, and good luck with sale! _________________ ,,Wenige Menschen denken, und doch wollen alle entscheiden.'' -der Alte Fritz

Most tiers have that requirement even when the old 165's were available. All I can say is people still fit them on and have no issue. Im personally going to run Audi 15's on my bay window (different rim) and still have the 215/75/15 size. _________________

Installed some stock spindles on the front of the bus and did some reindexing on the rear. Went up one inner spline and down two outer splines. Got rid of that crazy positive camber in the rear
brought her in from the cold

i like it. Only thing that bothers me is the corner treatment on the rear bumper. Looks awkward. would look better if it was more tucked in like the front corners _________________ regards

It would look perfect if he had a roof rack towards the back of the bus, the bumper ends would make a great step when loading stuff onto it! _________________ 1973 Superbeetle: 1st car, owned since age 12. Update thread --> https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=9919140#9919140

I agree and I actually have a rack I could use. The only problem is that with the rack on it doesn't fit in my attached garage _________________ 1952 Zwitter

What about lowering and putting a roof rack on top??
Hope you too don't like that idea.

WOW! awesome thread. I am curious though, I have a 64 as well and I noticed you had rear heat. Was that optioned or factory? I don't have that in mine, wish I did though. Really cool bus man. |
