How strange is it that my 50 Hoffman standard split has a KM speedometer, and the birth certificate also doesn't list the M020 option:
VIN - 1 - 0 179 XXX
Model - 11 A, VW Sedan Standard
Engine no. - 1 0 215 737
Color - "is not mentioned" (original is L21 perlgrau)
Built on - 13 July 1950
Left factory on - 5 August 1950 (that seems like a long delay?)
Country of destination - Hoffman, New York / USA
Options - M 001 Chrome-plated bumpers, hub caps, outlet pipes, front indicator lights, tank cap and door handles; in addition with trim strips and passenger sun visor
I have what looks to be the original speedo, correctly date-stamped for the car. I know that the birth certificates have been known to have errors, but this is really strange to me that the birth certificate is missing the option and my car has a KM speedo. Would this have even been allowed to be imported this way? |

Nothing legally precluded a km speedometer equipped car's being imported anymore than the cable brakes, or unsynchronized transmissions seen on the "standard" models in the 50's. Seems likely the km speedometer was the normal feature that warranted no special mention on the build sheet. Were it my car, I'd leave that km speedo in there. |
