Has anyone out there ever done this before? How hard/expensive is it, should I just pull out the link pin beam, and put a new one in from say, a later model Ghia? Any addvice would be great.....

It is not necessary to change the beam at all. There are various kits to upgrade to discs. You'll need to replace the spindles, but keep the King/link pin beam. I have CB Performance Wide 5 disc brake set up, and it is very nice. Another option is a 4 bolt pattern kit (vw or porsche pattern).

CB, CSP, and SoCal Imports, Inc. all offer wide-5 front disc brake kits. Some increses the wheel track a little bit ( about 1/2 inch per side) so depending on your choice of tires, that might be a concern) some are "zero-offset", and all of them are bolt-on; if you can get to your backing plate, and remove them, and can bleed your brakes, you can do the swap at home. Something you may want to consider is purchasing an item called a "porportioning valve" that lets you set how much brake line pressure goes to which end of the car. With skinny 135 or 145 tires, it's pretty easy to lock up the front wheels with discs in front.
