Hey guys,

Jump started my 1974 Bay Window after a month in storage. Let the engine run a while, purred along nicely for 20-30 min.

Then turned the engine off, as a test tried to start the engine but it doesn't want to start now. But the dash lights illuminate. Haven't jumped it a second time.

Ideas for beginning to diagnose this issue?

This is 1974 Fuel Injected Bay Window Automatic

Certainly does.
Jump it again and test the voltage across the terminals while it's running (after you disconnect the jumpers), if it's less than 13 you may have charging system issues. Try trickle charging it overnight, how old is the battery?

Of course a good battery terminal cleaning never hurts, and if you have aftermarket terminals that clamp on to the cables investing in some real swaged cables is also money well spent.

Do be careful when jumping, sometimes a PO replaces a ground cable with a red one, mix up the polarity and there will be expensive smoke.

fixed it for you. The battery is dead. Do you need help putting air in your tires? We have a service for both issues.

Measure voltage between the 2 battery terminals with key off.

If it's less than 12.6 volts, take the battery out and put it on the charger overnight.

If the battery won't take a charge and hold 12.6v when not connected to anything then get a new battery.

X2. If you don't have a charger, your local FLAP will be glad to throw it on a charger and let you know if it is any good.

Do the dashlights dim out when you turn the key to the START position?

Check the voltage at you battery with the key in the ON position and the headlights on. Are your headlights bright?

Success!

Originally the voltage at 12.01, used a trickle charger overnight, now the voltage is 13.00.

Recommending a trickle charger made by Solar, Prologic PL2140.

How about when it's running?, does the voltage remain the same?, or increase?

About 5 min engine running test, voltage is increasing (read out is jumping around)

13.00 to 14.9 up to 15.2

14.9-15.2 is no good and killing the plates in the battery

Agreed. 14.5 is usually what is considered top end of alternator output for cars. I just had to change my truck alternator because it was putting out 15v... and change my battery... I wasn't very happy with my FLAPs for that fail. New one is putting out 14.5V though. Cool

Time for a new voltage regulator
