|
|
'86 2.1. I tried to search but could not find the posts that I remember. Others had made some sort of box to mount the idle control module in. This was contiguous with its mounting and allowed for the "waterproofing" of the idle control module. I don't want it to get wet again. I've been hanging around here a long time and that was probably a dozen years ago. Has anybody done this or recall who did please? I remember excellent pictures.
Thanks, Jeremy (Goldie the weekender) |

Perfect! Thanks for your thoughts. I thought about putting it in engine bay as well. It got me thinking why they put it back in the hole in the first place. I wondered if it was a temperature thing. But if it's working for you it'll work for me
Thanks again. |

in a sense, you don't want true waterproofing... unless the box is completely atmospherically sealed, any inevitable water entrance remains, creating a humid, corrosive environment.
a box, such as Dave made is great as it provides complete splash protection. have the wires enter through the BOTTOM always, and don't make those entrances too tight. you want water to be able to drip away along with some air relflux to dry the case interior.
clean the pins and socket VERY well with copious amounts of water to rinse conductive and corrosive contaminants away eg road salt and grime. dry them and treat them with silicone spray, Caig Labs PreserveIT, LPS Rust Inhibitor, etc and then tuck it away in the box. _________________ -dan
