|
|
Had trans rebuilt after it destroyed itself. Before it was rebuilt it would make a loud noise if you were in reverse and then pushed in the clutch and coasted (going backwards). After the rebuild the noise is much worse, trans seems to work fine although have not driven enough to really break it in. Spoke to the rebuilder, he was not concerned. Put the oil that he sold me in it.
Any ideas? thanks |

All VWs make a loud noise while in reverse because the gears are straight cut, that's why your trans builder wasn't concerned.
Put oil in and drive it. _________________

If you have lost preload on the pinion bearings it can make noise in reverse and cause extra wear on the ring and pinion. After a rebuild with the preload properly set the worn gears may be noisy. Yes the reverse gear is square cut and thus noisier than the other gears. |
