I inherited this jigsaw from my Dad. It still works - although I'm not using it - but the cord needs replacing. What would you do - replace the cord (which I would probably pay someone to do, if I could find one) or just throw the whole thing away? Thoughts?

And is there an easy way to post non-vw pictures? I looked at the FAQs and didn't see anything. So I uploaded to Flickr and this is what I have. There must be a better way....

Hold your VW key, logo, or matchbox car near the object.

I would just replace the cord. It looks like that particular model has lots of replacement parts. You might be able to find a video or manual somewhere online. It shouldn't be too difficult to replace.

I'll look at replacing it. I just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing something.

I would definitely repair it. Bosch makes excellent tools. You should be able to find a Bosch service center or a authorized repair center in your area.

You say it works and no copper showing the you could re-insulate it.

Cheap fix.
Wrap it with electrical tape ( 3M Scotch 33+) not the cheap stuff.
OR cut off the plug and put shrink tube over it then a new plug/cord cap end.

I would replace the cord but I was a commercial/industrial electrician
for 25 years. A shop might might charge more than it is worth.

re-purposed it as a shelf in my Garage:

I used it many times as a saw when I was a kid, now it will live on at my place......

Nice save on the vintage tool Crukab, but I think that's called a Scroll saw. Wink

You can rewire it, most likely still can order replacement parts. I replaced the base of mine last year after it fell off the bench, bent and cracked.

This is why I cut the cords off vacuums etc when they go kaput. Make great replacement cords and you can make them any length you want!

Yep, I do the same. Got about a dozen in a drawer !

Nothing beats fixing stuff with things in the garage, driving and buying parts/hardware is the worst.
