I am looking for a new wiring loom for a 1960 karmann Ghia. I noticed J Bugs has them through 59 and then beginning with 61. They don’t appear to have one for 1960. Does anybody know what the differences are or which one might work for my car?
Thanks! |

The wiring loom for a 60 is different than every other years, with (almost) all connections with screw instead of connectors, different fuse boxes,...
Please let me know if you manage to find somebody creating a new one, I would also be interested!

I just got off the phone with Bob. He was full of useful information so thank you for the referral. What I learned was that '60 is a very rare year. He referred to it as a recall year. A cross between a 59 and a 61. Bob said he would completely rebuild my loom if I sent him the one from my car. He also suggested taking pictures of it before removing it from the car.
Thanks again for the help. |

If by any chance he can do a wiring harness for my 60 while rebuilding yours, it would be really awesome! Please keep me in touch!
Thanks

I built a new wire harness for my 1960 convertible as all wires were cut.
Main difference between 1959 and 1960 is the 2 fuse boxes, the front fuse box on the 1960 is a 4-fuse box.
Compared to 1961 the 1960 have screw terminals where 1961 is spade terminal. If you have correct switches and lights these are "one year only".
For your own sake if you diy, please acquire wires with correct color codes. There is nothing worse that troubleshooting on 5 red wires

silly question. Does the wiring go inside the tunnel on a 1960 Ghia or ride along side the tunnel. Mine was partially rewired and runs along the passenger side footwell. I want to get it right once i order the loom from Britain and after i get the Ghia back from the shop once its ready |
Up to 1965 inclusive the wires ran inside a tube that ran along the RHS sill. It starts from behind the right front splash plate in the front wheel house and runs to the bottom of the inner rear quarter panel, up over the rear wheel tub and into the engine bay through a grommet in the centre of an almost triangular plate tucked up in the rear quarter atop the wheel tub.
Gallery photo shows the inner guard
Also from the gallery, photographed upside down is a NOS sill panel with integrated wire tube where the exit point is visible. The exit is inside the car, down low next to the rear seat.
