Since it is so difficult to get a 13/16 socket through the tin to change plugs, I was considering getting adapters and going to an equivalent 5/8 socket (14mm) spark plug.
Has anyone tried this and does it work?
Thank you,
Doug

Which engine/tin? Just did plugs on my stock 1500sp and didn't have any problem with the 13/16 socket. |

5/8" is closer to 16mm ......
Not a great idea: perhaps try a plug w/ reduced (5/8") hex drive. _________________

I'm not sure how compression works.
Turbos don't produce torque, they produce HP. Instead of torque.
The real problem with NA engines is you don't hear the nice whine of the turbo as it spools up.
Before I commit, I'm going to do more research because I don't really know what piston rings are. |

You can get 14mm NGK plugs with a 5/8" head. NO adaptors are needed.
What plug are you currently using? _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

Doug - that would be my FOURTH option. In no particular order for options #1 to #3:
#1 would be to grind down the existing spark plug socket on a bench grinder for easier fit (wear safety goggles). I did just that about 40 years ago to my socket, to get to my plugs on my ingle Weber manifold on my 1835cc DP engine, still use that socket.
#2 would be to buy a thin wall spark plug socket
#3 would be to use a spark plug like VWRacerDave details below:

By the way: single port or dual port engine? Factory or aftermarket tins and manifold/end castings? _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. Hey there, for those of us that aren't terribly up on these things, is there a handy chart or some similar guide to cross referencing plugs that would help determine a good stock replacement with a reduced drive size? Something like a BP5HS or BP6HS with a 5/8 hex would be lovely _________________ 73 super beetle thread http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=649622 Back on the Road!

With a socket like this it's easy, works on a lot of other things too.

Modok, what application is that double 3/8th" drive jobbie in the middle for?
I like it & want to know how to use it when I build it.
EDIT: or is it 1/2" double drive? Nevertheless. |
