Some time ago I purchased a Bosch coil type TK6A3.
I read on some sites that this coil was used in early splits and Porsches 356.
Here are some pic's :
On the bakelite part the type number is stamped. However on the metal part there's no stamping. In other pictures on the net I see this :
So, what do I have? Is my coil a fake? _________________ a beetle is like a cocker spaniel, always funny but sometimes not listening |

There were several versions available, that explains why your coil looks different.
Don't want to disappoint you,but they were never factory equipped on VW's. |

Was this coil used in early Ovals with 25 hp motor in 1953 ? _________________ Currently restoring a 1953 11g in metallic blue.

In fact it is correct for Splits starting from about May 1951 onward. The star coil was NOT used on later cars, a mistake often made by restorers. |

See of you can find a stamped date code om your coil (Like the "11J" in the other coil).

You have an early version of this coil. Probably 1951. You should find the date stamp on the cad-plated coil bracket. I suspect it will be 6G (June 1951) or something close. The 1952+ versions of this coil had the model type (TK6A3) embossed on the top of the coil instead of on the bakelite. The date stamp was moved to the top as well. In 1954 these coils got a big yellow Bosch sticker too. |
