Sorry if this has been covered somewhere here. I searched keywords for a long time and checked the CB site, and found no conclusive info. I have a 1776 with CB 044 heads. The pushrod tubes are cheapo springy deals and seals are leaking. I want to go to stock tubes. Will they work on CB 044 heads? Or do I need big mouth tubes or some other fancy tubes? Thank you |

The the need for big mouth tubes is due to ratio rockers, high lift cams, etc moving the pushrod over. The worst seems to be the aftermarket 1.25's in stock format.
Really, you just need to mock it up and see. |

Stock tubes will be fine. I'm using 044 heads, 1.4 rockers and over .600 lift with 3/8" pushrods and stock tubes so you should be fine. Make sure the seams go up, facing the cylinders, and if for some reason it looks like the pushrod is too close to the tube at the opening in the head, you can take a 3/8 socket extension and roll the edge of the tube.

Thanks for the help. I would love to mock it up, but didn't want to spend on stock tubes just to find out they won't work. I hope the rockers are stock, but have not checked yet. Knowing the builder, they are likely 1:1.25 |

I feel like spring tubes are a great idea, as long as they work better and more reliably than originals. But the set on this engine will not seat correctly and I am on a budget with this motor. |

If the are the scar aluminum tubes the d da tjat ho into the head are not cut square where the washer goes on. This is so you can spin the tube and get the correct angle to seat the seal in the head.. . Ask me how I found that out........

It is leaking on the block side, not the head side. I don't even know what brand the tubes are. They are kind of a gold/yellow anodized look. |

probably installation error. the seals need back up washers. and no oil on the back up washer..or...they may slide into the seal. I like the sily cone seals. you do need to slightly oil the seat on the head and case so the seal can slide into the proper position and seal like it should. or they may just be cheep ass hard cracked seals. they shoud of made the washers a little bigger dia. |
