Hi, I'm building a 356 coupe on a shortened 70/71 chassi. Will pre 66 short axles and tubes with the shorter bearing housing/end casting fit on in order to get good clearance for 6" wheels with zero offset? If so, will it limit the choice of gearbox at all? |

They will if you use the spring plates from a swing axle car. It seems counterintuitive to get rid of the better suspension so you can make a kit car look more like a Porsche. FWIW, the double spring plates on a '70 are sought after in the off-road community. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

I wouldn't ditch irs for swing axle when you can gain the same difference in length by having your trailing arms narrowed an inch.
Others do them too but here's an example

My chassis isn't IRS, UK cars were IRS much later from what I've discovered. |
