|
|
I am working on installing my EMPI 2 1/2" drop/disc conversion. I ordered the dual bolt pattern (14mm Porsche which I will not be using and the "chev 5x130 pattern)
This came sans any wheel studs or bolts. I am trying to ascertain the correct diameter and pitch for the "chev" bolts.
If anyone has info on this or can recommend a stud kit it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. _________________ I succeed because I fail. |

This is the page for that same kit from Jbugs.com's site:
https://www.jbugs.com/product/22-2882.html
It says on that page, "...drilled for the 5x130 Porsche 5 lug pattern with 14x1.5mm threads and the 5x4.75 Chevrolet 5 lug with 12x1.5mm threads"
So if you are using the Chevy holes you will need to get a set of screw in studs with 12x1.5mm pitch (12mm diameter stud threads x 1.5mm pitch between threads).
12x1.5mm happens to also be the same size lug bolt pitch used on the pre-68 VW wide-5 wheels. So you should be able to use the screw in lug stud studs from the early wide-5 drums. Like this:
https://www.jbugs.com/product/9516.html
You just need to find the correct 12mm lug nuts that work with your wheels. _________________ AshMan40

take a rotor to a hardware store and find a bolt that will screw in them so you know for sure....pretty simple. |

Thanks for the help kids. I tried a 7/16-20 in the hole...it kinda went but was pretty tight so by deduction I figures 14x1.5 was the next choice.. I prefer to use studs rather than bolts. PITA trying to get the started. _________________ I succeed because I fail. |

Well, I got the new drop spindle and rotor fitted, went to put on my treasured 14" Chev wheels and..THEY DON'T FIT! DOH!
Seems the the inner edge of the rim hits the lower ball joint DOH! Back to the drawing board. _________________ I succeed because I fail. |

The 2-1/2" dropped spindles place the lower ball joint very close to the inner wheel surface. It just fits stock 15" steel wheels. With thicker alloy wheels the lower ball joints make contact with the 15" wheels like this:
Sorry, but unless your 14" wheels have very little backspacing they will never fit. In fact w/ dropped spindles + alloy wheels you may want to look at 16" or 17" wheels! _________________ AshMan40
