|
|
So my bus randomly stopped cranking (starter is good)
When I turned the key this relay clicked and now it stopped. My cars 12v and this relay seems to be 6v. Could this be bad and cause my starting issue?
I checked WW and couldn't find a replacement.
Any help will be appreciated.

okay doing some more research and I think this is a flasher relay. My bus is a 66 with emergency flashers. So I should replace this with a 12v unit correct?
This also cant have anything to do with the no crank issue.
I used a test light on the ignition switch and both hot wires light up. So there is power to them. I put them together and still no crank. |

Yes, that's a flasher relay.
It's rare that starters quit suddenly, I'd be looking ove both battery terminal connections, the other ends of the cables where they connect to the bus and the ground strap between the trans and frame.
Try the tests below to see how the starter is feeling (out of gear, brake on, don't run yourself over).

Edit: Got it figured out. Loose wire.
Got the starter to turn over. Completely unrelated but still won't start. Can a faulty 9 pin relay prevent it from starting? Looks like I have no power to coil.

Probably DPO auxiliary ignition switch. Trace wires and find out. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

Don't toss or replace that blue relay until you get your coil power figured out. The relay has nothing to do with the coil but it does get turned on with the same power so if you can fix the ignition "on" thing it should fix the blue box.
You could pull off wire 15 from the blue box just to rule out a short inside it to see if power goes to the coil. If it were shorted though a fuse would have blown. |

Got the bus started, there was a tiny wire that was just wrapped around #15 and I didn’t notice they had come off. Secured thst back on and she started. Blue box isn’t clicking and I’ve got no headlights/ signals. |

Time to start sorting thru your wiring and getting it back to stock. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

The button is common fix for bad stating in 6 volt systems, the stock key switch goes bad sometimes, I use the stater button in my 63 sedan w/12 volt now, have it somewhat hidden also, theft deterrent, key turns on but wont start it _________________ 73 Type 181

Check and spin the two right fuses. Screw the blue box back on. |
