Gentlemen,

Does anybody know how to locate these Ching-a-ling AA rings?

One is marked 'top' Applause Applause Applause Applause
So we do know which way it goes.
It also has a bevel on the inside top, so can we assume it's the top compression ring?

Other (quality) rings have the inside top bevel in this top ring location, correct?

That means the other ring is the middle?
It has no 'top' marking, or dot(s).
And it *kind of* has a bit of a couple of notches on the OD.
Kinda.. You can just barely feel them with a fingernail; might just be rough.

Unlike any other middle(?) rings I ever saw, it doesn't seem to have an up/down top/bottom? Think Think

These are 96s for type 4, and maybe 10 years old, FWIW.

I made this little drawing to try and illustrate what I'm seeing..
Put the instructions from some proper rings by there,
And that's obviously no help.. Rolling Eyes

Tell me, O Wise Masters of the Samba.
Do i have my chinga-ling-rings right?
Or ching-a-ling rong?

TOP marks the top ring, and the writing faces the top of the piston.
Those bottom rings can go on either way. They are symmetrical.

You need to stand the ring up on end on a flat machined surface, maybe even glass if you don't have anything else handy.

Push it down with your thumb and make it stand on it's edge.

What does it do?
Is the end flat so it will stand solid straight up?
gently curved so it doesn't stand solid, rather rolls 5-10 degrees either way easily?
or tapered so it leans at a 10? degree angle one way.

Then you will know whatcha got.

I had some AA rings where I think the second ring was intended to be tapered face, but I got different results depending on what part of the ring I checked Rolling Eyes So I chucked em.

I think you have it right, but I'm not sure, if you can figure out the shapes of the faces then it will be sure.
