|
|
I am trying to find NOS beauty rings for my 1967 Beetle convertible, and I have found a few which have the right number of vents (10), but say they are for 4 lug nut wheels (Ghia 1967 was 4 lug nut?). As the 1967 was a 5 lug nut wheel, would these still work? What would be the difference (fit a slightly different hub cap)?
Does anyone know the part number for this part (such as 311 601 155)?
Thanks!
-Harry

Not certain, but that ring should fit all VW's . Flat caps and baldies. _________________ .

Great! If I'm understanding correctly, you are saying that the # of lug nuts has no impact on the design of the beauty ring or hubcap?
Thanks! |

4-lug wheels had hubcaps that fit over bumps in the wheel; 5-lugs fit inside. Whether this affects the trim ring or not I can't say, but I would worry it might unless KNOWN otherwise. |

I'm seeing 141 601 155 B listed for '66 convertibles (specifies 5 hole mount), and 311 601 155 for '67-'69 convertibles (specifies 4 hole mount). _________________ 1960 Ragtop w/Semaphores "Inga" |

Hmmm... the Type 3s had a different wheel offset; whether that affects the trim ring or not I'm not sure, but I always assumed it did. |

I'm not 100% sure but I think 4-lug wheels are all the same.
5-lug trim rings are definitely different for 5-lug Type 3 wheels, Bug 5-lug ones don't fit properly. _________________ How to Post Photos

mukluk - where are you seeing those part numbers? 141 would be Karmann Ghia, right (which is a type 1, which would make sense), and 311 is a 1500?

The part numbers are pulled from the parts catalog.
Yes, 141 would be KG and 311 a Type 3, but VW's numbering system used the vehicle the part was first used on in the initial three digits -- if the part was subsequently used on a different line/type the part number retained the original three digits. A good example of this is with your typical 1600 dual port heads: their part number starts with 311 as they were originally designed for and used on the Type 3. _________________ 1960 Ragtop w/Semaphores "Inga" |

Exactly right ^^. An easy, popular example is the horn bar used on beetles from '64 to some time later. They have a 311 number. _________________

call me 'old-school' but i prefer not to cover the two-tone wheels so famous to beetles...
the chrome is cool yes...so to me is a toss up -- but i dig my two-tone wheels tho _________________ Did you ever stop to think, and forget to start again?

Harry, did you ever figure out the answer to this question? I'd like to pick up an NOS set as well but don't want to buy the wrong set. _________________ PM ME TO ADD YOUR '67 TO THE '67 BUG REGISTRY!!!!

Whoa - somehow I missed this post! It's probably too late, but the original part number is CK 141 601 155 B. *HOWEVER* The exact same ring also has a different part number CK 311 601 155 - that just wasn't the original for the Bug (but only a purist will know). As long as they aren't too damaged, you *can* find the part number stamped on each ring.
I hope that helps! _________________ -Harry

The 141 is what are on my '66 KG, and I bought an NOS set in the original box (also 141) and they are remarkably nice. Given the wheels and wheel covers are interchangeable for '66 and '67 Type 1s and KGs, who would know unless you looked at the part number stamped in the inner edge of the trim ring. I don't know if there's even a specific one for the Type 1 with a different part number, since they are interchangeable wheels. The guy I bought my set from in England has one more NOS set, unless he sold it in the last 6 months. Message me for his info if you're interested in his contact info.
These are the ones I have.

I'd love to know who the guy in England was if you don't mind passing the info! They seem like a part you can't buy too early in the process _________________ PM ME TO ADD YOUR '67 TO THE '67 BUG REGISTRY!!!!

Reviving an old post.
Since the late (?) 1966 and 67 bugs used a specific rim/hubcap (5 lug) are the beauty rings different also?
I got a set of rings and compared them to the beautiful rings posted and the interior portion of my rings are flat while the ones in the pics have a "bump"?
Any help?
