Well not sure what direction I'm gonna go with this yet. I'm new to buses, but not new to ACVW's Just couldn't say no to this poor bus that I feel needed to be saved.
Shows to be early production January 02, 1968
I'll need ALLOT of parts seeing it has been disassembled and parts lost. I'll be busy at swap meets and classifieds for a while.

Looks like she's got good bones. it should fix up nice. I hope it came with boxes and boxes of it's removed parts. January '68 is not too early in the production as a VW production year runs from August to August. So January is almost mid year in the production cycle. She's a beauty. Enjoy! |

Thanks for the education, I wondered what the production runs were. I have nearly zero parts for this. It will be a long time of parts searching. _________________ My build thread(The desert Rat). http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=653395 |

long term search for sure. You could buy a clapped-out 69 to 72 parts bus for a couple/few hundred and save some time. whatever you do, just have fun with it. |

One great vendor is “thebusco” and he’s not too far away from you. Get to know Ken. In fact, call him. You’ll be glad you did. _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

And before shopping too hard read the 68 only parts thread: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=307958
Looks like it's not too rotten, that's a good start, welcome to the slippery slope of bus ownership _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Looks like a good project. Hit up the vw show in Woodburn early June for parts. _________________ 71 Westy 1600 DP, all stock Bus 1

Shoot, wish you weren't so far I'd hit ya up. Just what I've seen this far is all door handles, latches, regulators, and hardware. Slider for hardware, head light assy's, ventwings, door panels, and that's about the worst of it _________________ My build thread(The desert Rat). http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=653395 |

Hmm, what's the most expensive way to build a bus? Buy a one year only example that's already donated all it's parts...
Shell looks good but I hope your wallet is bulging. |

Yeah, Zed is expressing what was rolling around in my head, too.
It's sad to say, but it is reality.
If this is going to be a long-term hobby, then you're golden.
But I can't see this bus/van being drivable within the next 5 years. And $10-15k.
This is an expensive hobby. _________________ -Kent-

Well fortunately the drivetrain is complete and looks good. It's just cosmetic's that are missing. _________________ My build thread(The desert Rat). http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=653395 |

That's quite a lot of cosmetics you'll need Best advice is to find a rusted out donor. _________________ |

I've got most of that stuff. Head light stuff ain't the best but it is there. Feel free to PM me and maybe we can get on the phone together and get you set up. I don't wanna give much away for free, but I know what its like to have to piece a bus together....and it hurts. One major requirement is that you post more pictures _________________ 1982 Vanagon Westy

Kinda weird, I'm assuming the customer didn't want a walk thru after purchase and dealer installed bench seat?

Where are you in Oregon? I'm in Roseburg & I have a ton of glass for you if you need it. Rear glass & sides for free if you come get them. I don't have a front windshield though.
