Trying to stay on target for all welding completed by the end of February. Fingers crossed...
Connecting vanagon a pillar support to the split. I like having this extra piece of strengthening on the front of the bus along with the completely boxed frame.
Finishing off the dogleg cap/wheel well
Finishing the front floor shifting shifter shift pod.

Found enough T4 16” steel wheels to have a complete set, pretty excited about that. Started on the support structure for the vanagon Brake/clutch pedal cluster and that is a big check off the list.
Oh man... if this were 10 hours closer would I have plans for it!

I never expected you to get this far or to have done the work to the standard that you have. So many details still ahead of you before you even get to body and paint, but I have no doubt you will take the time to get them right.
What a cool project!! |

Thanks, much appreciated. I keep thinking I am almost finished with the big welding/melding jobs and one more thing pops up, but I am definitely on the downward slope of that part of the job. Hopefully primer will go on by the end of March and paint by the end of April. Then it’s just electrical, mechanical and a camper kit away from beers at the top of mineral basin🤞🏼 |

are you putting the gas tank where it goes in a Vanagon or where it goes on a split? or somewhere else? _________________ regards

The vanagon syncro fuel tank sits in the same place as a split tank, unfortunately I removed 3” width from the chassis of the vanagon before putting it under the spilt so I was unable to use it. I will be using a late bay tank in the split stock location. It will give a little breathing room for the transmission compared to stock vanagon and make the starter change worlds easier. Going with the late bay tank for a few more gallons and it is already set up for fuel injection which will help with the bostig engine conversion I’m likely installing.
Thanks everyone. |

Started searching for the best radiator location and I think I’ve decided on this spot.
Been hanging onto this old tow bar because I thought it could be useful, should make a good skid plate.
Likely will end up building a swing away carrier for the spare located here.
Pulled the trigger on this speed hut all in one speedo to avoid having to mount a bunch of gauges in a cluster, downside I did have to open up the pod.
Rear deck back in its spot.
Welded the two lids together to accommodate the bigger access for the engine
Just for the hell of it sanded more paint off of the nose and bumper and happy to find that silver white. |

The dizzying array of lines and patterns in this shot is truly striking. Wow.

Maybe that’s why sometimes when I should be working I find myself just staring at this thing for what could be considered too long? Damn flashbacks must be brought on by all the twisting of my back 🤔 |

It’s never considered too long. Stare at it for as long as you need in order to plot your next move. This is a complex layout that deserves to be finished. Turning out great so far. _________________ 1973 Standard Beetle - running maintenance thread - https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=675712&highlight=
