Good to see progress on the inner structure of the nose - lots of critical alignment and repair - well done!

so, what happened the last couple weeks? Very Happy Very Happy

Thanks a lot guys Very Happy

@Vlad: I see, you also had a good basis Laughing Laughing

So, continuing on my latest update, it was almost fully welded..but only almost.

I had originally planned a bit differently but finally made the patch on the whole width as there was some rust in the front too:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

so all welded, and cleaned:

Then my attention can go back to the front Twisted Evil

I once again mounted all fenders, hood,.. and took measurement/alignment, and then put some bracing to the front to keep it in the good position:

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

and then it's a matter of forming the new airbox:

and putting some welding primer before tack welding it together:

I would be at a loss to figure out how to get all the parts lined up properly again!! I find every step of your restoration to be very educational and it is so interesting to see the construction details of how these cars are designed and built. Keep up the fine work. I can't wait to see the car all back together again.

Antoine your work is amazing and inspiring. I am in the midst of stripping down a 67 to send to the media blasting shop, where the body will be separated from the frame/pan and both will be blasted. Your support in place of the doors is very tidy indeed. I would not have thought this prudent unless the car happened to be a convertible. Would I be making a mistake in continuing my process without these supports?

Thanks!

Thanks a lot guys, really appreciated Cool

@will t: it depends on your car, normally if your heater channels aren't that bad, you don't need them on a coupé. In m'y case, I knew they were crusty so I preferred being safe Wink it is also quite easy if you do a simple fixture like mine Wink

Thanks, happy if this thread motivates you to start in the amazing world of metalshaping Twisted Evil

the latest update:
After the welding primer dryed out, it was time to tack weld the airbox, only a couple tacks at the beginning to check it assembled:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Seems to fit good:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Then I put the repro "tunnel" for the back part..and it was totally wrong. I compared it with my original..and for sure it was way off...
I then made some cut to "adapt" it:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

and welded some tab to keep the position:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Then it was a matter of filling the space by creating the missing part and tig welding it:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

now it fits: Cool
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

and then I removed the old storage primer, put some primer on it and then some paint in the OG color except where welding comes (I put there some welding primer!):
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

and the some on the body counterpart:

Awesome as always Antoine! I am really so envious of guys like you who can just fabricate pieces so well and with such precision. Great to see all the hard work you have taken on to preserve this Ghia instead of letting it die in a rust pile!

Hello Antoine,

Your work is amazing and I love your commitment and determination to bring this Karmann Ghia back to life.

I came across this picture yesterday in one of my photo folders and remembered seeing your 1960 Strato Blue build thread. This is a picture when it was for sale in Portland, Oregon on Craigslist. Maybe someone here knows who owns the Oval window?
