Hey hey hey,

Not yet a real update, but looks like the 914 is fit again and then the ghia will be back on the top of the list Cool

I started to clean and reorganise my shop to "work" (play!) more efficiently, and couldn't resist taking the cover off for a short sight😍

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Hopefully soon some real news!

I've been saving your photo's. To me they are very artistic. Especially with the space your working in as the backround.
I plan on making framed prints to hang in my office Cool

Cheers Antoine!

It is always good to see your pictures. This is my best guide to the anatomy of a Type 14!

I can relate to your feelings when going into the garage and just having a peek. It is important to stay motivated on those "epic" projects Laughing

So..I am back in Twisted Evil
Well, not 100% as time is currently hard to find, so I did not start on the body yet but I am back on this project and currently working on a lot of small parts that will need to be ready (in a couple years Laughing ).
Like here, that was the start:

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

After some blasting:

And ready:

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I also blasted my door catches, before:

And after:

Same with the second side, before:

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

And after:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

And the door latches:

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

And one question, one of them looks different: missing a cap isn't it ?:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

None of them are showing issues, except the one without cap which shows some play. I will need to make some search on how to correct it Wink

Stay tuned, a lot more of these "small parts restoration" posts are coming, as I even brought some of them at home to work on them when I have a couple minutes free Very Happy

Every step, no matter how small, gets you closer.
Hinge pins wear out the hinge and they have to be oversized. There’s a guy in the US who used to do it, not sure if he still does. Airhead Parts sells nice reproductions guaranteed for life if you buy a set for the door.

Hey, every little part is a part of the puzzle!
Now that several small parts are ready, is just the Ghia that is missing. Twisted Evil

There's a lot of hinges available in the ads here. I think I would prefer an old original that is in good shape rather than a repro. You are very detailed. Looks great. This car will be completely like new by the time you are finished.

Did you use 2K paint already?

Cheers

I'm also wondering what kind of paint you are using for the small parts. Here in the USA you can often get many factory VW colors mixed in a spray can (Spruehdose) at a good body shop supply store, which would be suitable for the small parts you've shown. Or are you mixing the color in small batches using either acrylic enamel or single-stage urethane, and using a small spray gun each time? Are you using a self-etching primer, or epoxy primer on the bare metal?

I'm guessing you'll paint your door hinges in body color next?

Thanks guys for pour nice words Smile

What I do:
-cleaning: brake cleaner, paint remover,...
-blasting: with my small ebay cabinet using glass
-epoxy primer
-paint is single stage 2K paint in a spray can, we can also get them Here made to order with the right color Wink I found it quite practical for such parts 😉

Rome: i will only put the hinges in primer, paint will come when body/doors are fine and adjusted, in order to not damage paint through several assembly/disassembly Wink

Next: work starting on the body again!
