After 16 years my 56 Ghia is finally on its way to back on the road. Purchased from California around 2006, it went straight from the transport to the restoration shop. I had a deal with the owner that he would work on it in slow times for a discounted price. Im not sure how discounted the price actually was- but if I figure in that he kept it warm and dry and off my crowded property for those years it was a fair deal. He worked on it, I visited it. Eventually we both neared retirement. I wanted to get it going, he wanted it gone. So now its all painted and sitting in my storage unit. Last night I got my first part installed. Three screws and it was in! I figured start easy.

Where did you buy your Trout Blue paint? I am in San Diego and having a hard time getting the paint in California, apparently it has lead in it. L330 Trout Blue 12187. |

I got the L390 Gulf Blue paint for my car from National Coatings and Supplies. They're nationwide and have a few locations in and around San Diego.

Just tell them the VW paint code you want, and they'll mix it up for you. I'm pretty sure that modern paints will not contain lead, regardless of the color. I'd be curious where you heard that. _________________ Currently own:

Yet another lowlight project! Great to see so many being saved, and in such a beautiful color. Hope you'll be posting some before pictures.
Looking forward to following your project. _________________ Marc

Have you tried TCP Global? They have an extensive classic car color library. Ive never had an issue with getting paint and I shoot single stage. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

I have been working with several good paint shops around my area to reformulate L352 Cognac and after earnestly trying they have told me I am out of luck. I looked up TCP Global after Braukuche suggested it and there it is, no problem. It seems too easy! Makes me nervous ordering it from afar rather than working with a local paint shop. Braukuche, have you used their paint? Any concerns with color accuracy, etc.?
Thanks. |
