in a classic case of Vanagon obsession, here is a comparison of two shift boots on the lower linkage of the transaxle around the ball & socket joint.
OEM VW - 0.081" thick. more pliable than the generic, softer rubber. on my trans rebuild, a new OEM VW boot lasted less than 10k miles before it ripped 50% circumference in the accordian folds.
VanCafe replacement - 0.086" thick. less pliable than the OEM boot. all dimensions correct.
my trans is out right now as i do some engine work, i'm putting the VanCafe one in instead of an OEM VW. can't be much worse than falling apart after 10k miles. maybe all OEM VW boots are 20 years old now.

Questions is, how much time does it take to get each over the shifter ball...???
