Something I have been thinking about for a while. A larger radio faceplate to cover the hole after someone cuts in a stereo with a slide in cage.

Very nice! Did you make that? _________________ Formerly known in the forums as "OVALTEEN"

A co-worker and I were talking about vw radios and he made it for me with a 3d printer. It's just the first one. We are going to change a few things on it. |

Fantastic work! I struggled to make a DIN-cut hole in my dash look decent. Where were with this 20 years ago! I carefully die-ground(?) the faceplate you show above in the second picture. I wanted to adapt a shaft mount Alpine deck to have modern-ness in my '61. Still a criminal act looking back. _________________

So far plastic is the choice. Talked about aluminum but would probably be cost prohibitive. |

Since there are a number of bugs/VWs with a cut dash that people want to use an old style radio - how about making some type of a backing plate to be able to cover the scar and use an original faceplate/radio?

you could always 3d print them and then use the lost PLA casting method to cast them in aluminum _________________ Ruby red 1967 beetle sedan with a 2021cc

Really what would it take for someone to CNC these? Seems like enough hacked dashes out there that these would sell fairly well. I see billet mirrors for $25-40. Seems like a fair price point. _________________ 1960 Indigo Blue Ragtop (Blue Barry)

A larger faceplate is easier then metal dash repair. It isn't a problem to fill in the entire open section but not sure what it would look like with a stock radio hole but I will find out. |

Nice DIN ring! I think you should patent that and sell it to Fast-Fab or ISP West. _________________
