|
|
Alright so a few years ago when I took the original cover off of one of the seats, I made sure not to damage it because I wanted to do something with it. I decided on a wallet because then I'd always have a little bit of the original car with me and it would remind of all I've put into this money pit So the first thing I did was find a pattern, wasn't too hard, I got it on Etsy for like $7. This is the one I used- https://www.etsy.com/listing/253363174/classic-lea...s_search_1 Then I had to decide what I wanted to use material wise. I went with the basketweave as the outside and the smooth vinyl as the inside. So far I've got it ready to sew all together, I just need to go get some red thread tomorrow. You can see my silver thread on the edges, that's going to get covered by the basket weave. I modified the pattern so that the basketweave wraps around on the inside. I probably could have done a bit better on making the card holders look nicer, but it's not awful so I'm okay with it. I have enough material to make another one too so if I want I can do another. Here are some pictures-

Those are swell, but not made of HIS seat material, and the CC slots are not as convenient as his. They are a little large for my pocket, too, but they can fit. |

Here it is all done! I think it came out great, and KTPhil is right, I've seen those premade ones, but they aren't MY seats.

Perhaps a tool roll would be cool. _________________ "Albatross"! |

Would be very cool, I have the measurements somewhere, I'll have to see if I have enough material.

Very cool. I'm about to take the original Alibaster leatherette off of the seats in my '71. I think I might follow your example. Did any other projects cross your mind for using the rest of the material? |
I thought about a keychain, but calvinaters tool roll idea sounds pretty good. _________________ '67 Beetle L41

And maybe include measurements of the various pieces? |
I have not forgotten. Just busy. I will drop by my storage unit in the am and take some pics and measurements.

How hot would a leatherette bikini be on your girl?
If done right, it would require only a minimum of material... |

OK…so this tool roll came in either my 1972 411 or my 1973 412.
It appears to be made out of basically the same material that the door panels are made of only natural gray instead of a color. I will get a snap of the door panel vinyl in the am.
It’s a piece of vinyl that is folded over and sewn up both sides to form a pocket and across the top flap to mainly hold the two strips of basket weave seat cover material to the top edge.
It’s almost exactly 9.5” X 6 and 13/16ths inches. The vinyl appears to be about .020” to .023” Thick.
The straps are just a piece of basket weave vinyl that is folded over back to back and sewn into the top edge. The seams are exactly 3/16” from the edges.
Most of the correct tools are still in it. I used to have the #4 spark plug socket….which I miss…and the large tommy bar. They got stolen along with a small tool bag. The 13mm tubular socket is not from the kit but was in mine. The pliers are superb. The lug bolt socket is not correct but I have the correct one somewhere.
I also posted the parts book pages with the diagram and the part numbers of the tool roll.
