How does everyone feel about stripes on a buggy? I have seen some look good and I have seen some look terrible. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but what does everyone else's eyes think?

I have seen some very nice pinstriping jobs. I also would consider a vintage racing stripe in a complimentary color so it is a yes from me.

On the other hand I have seen horrible things done in the name of stripping!

Don’t worry! I’d never do something crazy. Just two basic stripes. Like the ones you see on cobras all the time. The question is, black or white? My buggy will be orange with no metallic.

I’m thinking something like the user Henny has on his buggy. I for the life of me can’t find a picture of a buggy with white stipes but I know I’ve seen one before. This is a picture of how my chassis sits now

How about if you try painting some strips of paper white and black and tape them on temporary to see how it looks? Take pictures of it with each color so you can sit and switch back and forth until you're sure.

Like all the other responders, it's your car - you do what you want. Find someone (like me) who has graphics experience who can do computer mock-ups of your car with different stripes so you can make the decision without actually putting anything on the car.

I'll have to look into the rag joint thing. Thanks for the tip! I am very familiar with the old camaro stripes. I have owned two of them in the past. Maybe something like that would look good.

Also the RZR seats are nice. They took all of an hour to install and are pretty cheap too!

I found this buggy. Mine has similar wheels and is the same color. Picture stripes on this.

Its fine. To mount the seats I took the frames off, drilled some larger holes though them making sure not to mess with the mounting holes for the cushions. Then I took the square holes on the top of the sliders and drilled them out with the same bit. I then attached the cushions to the seat (have to attach cushions first because the slider covers up the holes to bolt them on) I then ran the larger bolts through the frame, used about 1/2" of washers to allow the sliders to mount without touching the frame, and ran a nut on the inside of the top rail on the slider. I'll see if I can get a picture of how I did it. Obviously then the bolts that come off the sliders are through the floor.

The sliders I used:

"Bone stock 1600" that looks GREAT!

I like a properly done set of stripes.

The deal about the "rag joint" is the red disc in the steering shaft coupling to the steering box.

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/1877749.jpg

It's made of urethane, and is basically fine. The original factory piece, like those for Fords, Chevvy's and most all American cars for about 60 years, have fabric reinforcement in the rubber. These urethane pieces do not. So if and when the urethane fails, there is nothing for backup, like there is with the rubber ones. You're better off (this is the general consensus among VW enthusiasts on this forum and most everywhere else) is that it's better to get an original type replacement instead of the urethane.

The Red Disc Of Death are not alright to use. I seen several break apart. One was at a Manx Club Event where the buggy was being driven at slow speeds in between park buggies. Almost hit one because he had no control of buggy.
It if breaks on you at higher speed, you going to have to hope you have the luck in not dying.
