I'm not any further forward on my Engine.
As the Photos tell, Got the Engine loaded up at the builders, and set off on the 150 mile journey Very Happy Got about 70 miles, and the engine on my Van just let go. Straight into limp mode, and flashing engine heater coil light on the dash !! Called AA ( Automobile Association) They plugged the car in, and Injector 3 had decided to go on permanent holiday Sad Not Good news as an injector on it's own is nearly $600. AA guy towed me a spell, then had to leave me to be collected by a colleague, as I was just outside his area of operations Sad
Oh well the T1 Engine is safe and sound ready to be installed, once I've shelled out the $1k+ to get my Caddy Van repaired, ain't life just dandy Very Happy

So
Nearly a year on Sad
And Covid 19 is affecting the whole world Sad
I haven't had a chance to do anything for some time, but this has given an opportunity to possibly finish the Engine, and do some other stuff.

The last few weeks have been awful over here. My wife and I had our Flights to New Orleans booked for nearly a year and due to fly out 4th May. !!

Doesn't look like that will happen now ? we had planned a holiday of a Lifetime, driving from New Orleans to Baton Rouge, then on to Vicksburg for a couple of days, then on to see Elvis up at Gracelands Very Happy , a trip down to Montgomery, then on to Mobile, and finally back to New Orleans.

Anyway, I'll start of the build record by photos
Starting with Engine out, Clearance Bell-housing and other work associated with it

I love that lift man! I am looking for one - found two in Ohio but this Corona is keeping me from my joys.

Engine is looking nice. I will do that setup for bus engine but not for a TypeI. But a very nice engine indeed.

Engine bay requires a fair bit of work now, as we want to be able to install engine seals correctly, and fit Zeus clips and bolting arrangement for the removable valance. Also found some cancer starting Sad that’s getting bare metalled, and cured

Very sorry to hear about the cancelled vacation. I hope we get out of this lockdown soon and everyone stays healthy and life can resume.

That is a very nice looking engine, and clean car it is going into!

Thanks fl59Bug
We’re absolutely gutted of course 😩
I’m working at a Nuke Plant over here, we have quite a few Americans on the team. They are still here by the way 😩
I’ve heard so much about the South, and we had loads of things we wanted to see, but hoping both the USA and the UK come out of this better and stronger.
As I said the only good thing to happen from this is actually getting the time to get the Bug worked on 😆😆

The adapters for your intakes, that flip the carbs around...can you tell me a little more, like where you got them?

Cheers,

Hi Dave
They are Custom UK made plates that allow carbs to be turned to face inwards, ideally suit Porsche style fanshrouds where access is limited in the engine bay. Makes tuning and adjustment of carbs much easier, comes with the Hardware, and they were £50.00p a pair
Dan Simpson built my Engine, and he stocks these, look for his website.
I know He does a lot of work with US suppliers, certainly Mofoco. I’m sure he’ll ship ? Or point you in the right direction
Cheers
Another Dave 😆
