I''m a big believer in using relays to avoid either excessive loads on switches or to shorten long wire runs and have already added a bunch--all of which are working and doing the intended jobs very well. Purchased components, but not vendor designed specific units for a particular job.
Like everyone else, the passenger window is slow to operate. I have removed my window power relay and jumpered directly across so I can operate the windows with the key off. To demonstrate my reasonable competency with electrical understanding, I modified my inner high beams to run in series as DRL's and in parallel for normal use with all the switching automatically done through relays. But...............for the life of me I can't read the Bentley current path and make sense out of it. Neither 97.190 nor:
Here's what I don't get. First I can't seem to make sense of the internal wiring of the switches. Secondly, regarding the PS window, I can't figure out how if there are only two wires going to the RH switch does activating the LH get power to the motor. Evidently it has to go through the PS switch, but if that is the case, then where does the PS switch get it's power from when the DS switch is not sending power through those two leads going to that PS switch?
Once I can sort this out, it will be easy to relay up first the PS window to fix the voltage drop and switch stress issues. Then I will tackle the DS one as well. I remember a Samba topic on this where someone posted a hand drawn circuit diagram and accompanying clear narrative explaining the system, but I can't find it.
I know that I can just take the leads that go to the motor and use them to trigger relays to control the polarity and get the motor power from a nice new heavy direct fused lead, but I'd really like to understand what is going on here first before I start. |
