Hello all. I'm having some issues with my 12V brazilian Generator, (external regulator) which is not charging my battery. Idiot light works as supposed, flickering at idle and going off after giving some gas. I made these tests:
- Voltage test at battery with everything connected: around 12,6 V at idle, not more than 14 V with gas on.
- gen output without regulator connected. Generator spinning, multimeter positive into D+ and negative into groud. Df grounded. Voltage is so low that I need the mV scale in my multimeter!!!
- Df and ground show to have continuity. is this OK? I would say no... can anyone confirm this please?
- If I send battery positive to D+, ground Df, and battery negative to Df, generator spins quite fast. If I remove Df ground, it is supposed to run slower, but it doesn't.
Do I have a grounded field? Faulty carbons?
What continuity test should I do to check fields and stator?
Am I doing something wrong here?
right now I'm struggling to remove the fan in order to dismantle everything down to its components and check each separately...
Sweet rides to all and thanks in advance for any feed back!!! |

So I dismantled the generator and found that on the inside, DF pole was not isolated but directly connected to the inners of the gen casing, thus constantly grounded...
Is this correct?
Rotor is healthy.. No missing resin in the windings. No continuity between collector and armature.
Collector is healthy. Lightly sanded, cleaned the grooves.
Field windings are healthy. Good continuity, no grounding rather than wht above said.
Any suggestions?
thanks a lot! |

... you're some trouble-shooter,wow. I'd bring that generator to an electric shop and let them figure it out... i'm impressed. _________________ 5/50, pastel green 11G - SOLD

hahahahaha! I would say I'm some kind of stubborn DIY'er... before I take something to the repair shop I like to really understand what's going on, and in the way I try to fix things myself... this way instad of tking the whole generator to the shop, I may take only re rotor and say "please rewind it". (besides the fact that I like to get deep into what's going on, I'm in a very tight budget, which makes me do this way even harder....)
Thanks for your kind comment! |
