|
|
Greetings everyone.
I’ve been sitting on a set of tweed design lifted spindles for several years.
I am working on going from an adjustable beam to a stock beam with the lifted spindles.
Having a problem with the disc brake adapter that I’ve been using and the spindle.
Adapter hits the spindle.
I know Tweeds made a disc brake adapter and I’ve found a set but not sure if that is the correct set and not sure if it will actually resolve my problem.
Has anyone done this set up before?
Have pictures of how you did it?
Tweeds or TI design is no longer around to ask how it’s supposed to be set up.
And searching the forums hasn’t revealed any secrets.
The bug set up that I’ve seen pictures for has the brake adapter at different angles so they would work. |

why cant you just drill and tap a new set of holes ? _________________ It's not the size of your shop, it's what comes out of it that counts.

Thought about that
The lowest hole would be off the spindle.
I’m thinking of having a new set of caliper brackets made to clock them back a little to fit correctly.
Just wondering if tweeds made a different bracket or what others had done. |

I like the height.
Put it together quickly to see if I liked the height before having a set of brackets made for it.

I discovered that EMPI makes a disc brake adapter for wilwood brakes that has the holes drilled clocked at the correct angle.
Slightly concerned because the bracket is only 5mm think.
But I get to wilwood calipers without the need of any spacers and off the shelf bracket. |

My buddy had some brackets that were 1/4" thick. Under heavy braking, the bracket would flex over enough that the caliper was hitting the wheel. I think 3/8" is marginal. The stock VW spindle where the caliper mounts is around ½" thick. _________________

Yeah after really looking at it I’m not comfortable with the thickness.
But it does give me a pattern to work with and I can take it somewhere to be machines out of 3/8.
I only have 1/2” of space to work with before it hits the rotor but I think 3/8” steel will be fine. |

Can you modify the rotors to give you a couple of mm more room? If you can make them from ½", they will not flex, so you don't need very much clearance. With 3/8" you will need the room. _________________
