Still no plans to re-open the border, so I will have to sit this one out. |

I will also probably miss it. Damn, I don't know when the next west coast (California, at that!) would be, and I'm getting older every day!
But my Clemmie is not well yet, and COVID is still a concern. I am trying, but honestly I think I'll miss it. Too bad, that is one helluva beautiful drive and place to stay! I drove it and stayed there a few years ago (non-VW) as part of a trip up to the Seattle area, and positively loved it! It is quintessential northern/coastal California!
But I'm following the progress just in case things change for me, fingers crossed. |

So Clemmie caught Covid? Well that sucks. I hope it's not a fuel infection problem. I hope she feels better soon. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Lol, not COVID, but still sick! Best case, it's a bad pressure relief spring. Worst case, her engine is coming out and apart (most likely). It's that timeline that means I'm doubtful.
She's fine for short drives (?) but gets much too hot on the highway. Timing is now set right, but there may have been serious damage coming back for the last Invasion through 120F heat in Indio, with a broken distributor putting out WAY too much advance, oil temp at 300F. The oil was like water when I got home. Likely, damage was done. If I am lucky, bearings and polishing are all that are needed.
No regrets, the Invasion was well worth it! Not to be missed if at all possible! |

Hope all are well.
As of right now, we are still planning on holding the Invasion although the State of California is still not allowing events like this. This leaves us in a bit of limbo. Fingers crossed that it opens up soon enough that we can make a definitive decision. Looking like we will give another month or so and then make the call, yes or no.
How are people feeling about attending an in-person event? Assuming that Cali lets us. _________________ Later,

I have been to Crescent City , great lil town.
Arizona is open, no state wide mask mandate either. I remember a few years ago before I had a type 3 it was held in Prescott I think. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

I'm definitely not going. Not worth the risk. Nobody in my family will get the vaccine anytime soon due to where we fall in the "who needs it most" category, though we all will get it when it becomes available and we're eligible.
It's sad that the states aren't united in keeping masks on _________________ Toby http://www.aircoolednut.com/

Brian Fye and I appreciate all of the thoughtful feedback from everyone. We have taken it all into consideration, along with the latest news from California and other states and the federal government, and have decided that the prudent thing to do is to postpone the Invasion yet again and hold it in 2022. Nearly half of the planned Invaders responded that they would not be making the Invasion trip due to the risk.
This is post that I was really hoping I would not have to send, but it is the right thing to do considering everything. We are all part of a wonderful family and community and I certainly do not want to do anything that would put any of us at undo risk.
Please continue to keep yourselves and family and friends safe. Get vaccinated when you can and we will all have the opportunity to get together and enjoy each others company and the wonderful bits of German Type 3 engineering that have been bringing us together every other year for nearly 20 years.
We will get more details out to you all as soon as we can about 2022. _________________ Later,

I have been of mixed feelings, but I will be glad to see as many folks as possible next year, and will make damn sure I am ready for 2022!
Thanks are in order to Brian and John (and others, no doubt) for all the work and thoughtfulness. I hope if they need any help of any kind between now and 2022, they will let us know so we can help make it the best yet! |

Could you please put "Postponed to 2022" in the title of this thread? _________________ 64 No'back Speedster "Pearl"

Thanks Everett. I tried, but the thread was started too long ago for me to change it directly. Will have to hit you up to update it once we have the new details ironed out. _________________ Later,
