|
|
I'm slowly putting my front doors together and I'm now assembling the window frame but it appears as though my passenger window doesn't have the holes for a sliding lock fastner.
Top middle glass is the glass I'm talking about. There's no holes drilled to install a sliding lock fastner. You can see the driver's side panel does have the holes, the bottom row middle panel.
This is the stamp on the window pane. There also seems to be a weird discoloration and 'seeping' effect on the outer edges of the glass, as though the middle layer of glass went bad from the outside edges.
All the other panes have this stamp.
Was this common (for the passenger side to not have a sliding lock fastner?) or did the previous owner just replace it with an unusual window pane that didn't have the holes??
Haha, for a few minutes I did debate drilling the holes but then realized there may be others out there who'd find that appalling since it does seem to have some historical significance with a "West Germany" stamp. I guess I'll be selling it and buying a new panel? _________________ 1966 Bus https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=678279

Yes, the VW/Sigla logo is 62-63 Passenger Bus glass
You can't drill it, it would only crack.
The Sekurit glass should be easier to find.
If you were local to Phoenix I'd trade you, I have that piece you need and I generally collect VW/Sigla glass when I see it since I have a '63. _________________ How to Post Photos

Haha, like I said, I did consider it until I came to my senses and realized it's probably a bad idea.
I'd be down for a trade though shipping a large pane of glass would worry me since I've never shipped one before. My wife does ship a lot of stuff with her business so we do have a ton of packing bubbles and cardboard. If you're interested, send me a PM. _________________ 1966 Bus https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=678279
