Hi all,
Curious what your trained eye sees in these pictures. I don't know much about this bus except that it is a 1964 and has had the bulkhead hacked out. VIN is 1301433.
I've been looking at a ton of pictures and haven't seen any others with the side window configuration, which makes me believe it was a windowless panel (?) that has had windows put in, but I'd welcome your thoughts and comments on what you see based on the pictures.
I have not sent off for the line set ticket, or whatever VW calls the data sheet but will. Appreciate your comments.

Thanks Skim. Kind of what I thought. Do you know what those windows might have come out of? They look like the hard edged louvers from some of the camper models. _________________ 1978 VW Campmobile Deluxe, 091, 2.5L Subaru Swap

The windows look like Hehr jelousie windows , circa mid 1960s .
Do you have any pictures of the hand cranks? _________________ If you don't like the way I drive , stay off the sidewalk . |

Must be a late 64,without the ice pick door handles. Id think that the m tag would be on the over-head vent council for the push button handles like youre's.My bro has a 64 double door with the ice pick handles and his tag is still on the bulkhead _________________ Vw collection 60 combi ,61 panel ,62 deluxe micro,82 diesel Westfalia,88 Vanagon synchro,98 Jetta tdi,11 Jetta tdi mt ,11 Jetta tdi dsg.

Yes, it's a late 64 panelvan that had camper windows put in at some point. It was pretty common that a panel got converted to a camper.
There is a thread about camper conversions in the FAQ or stickies.
It is not a special model, but could be fun. Is it yours? Or are you thinking of buying it? |

Clara, thanks for the info. I just recently bought it and am still making friends with it. I was hoping it was not special as I'd like to make it mine (modify a few things) while doing the body repairs! _________________ 1978 VW Campmobile Deluxe, 091, 2.5L Subaru Swap

From the rear photos, it looks like it had an engine fire at some point. You should look closely at the metal around the engine compartment. Sometimes heat damage can make the rear structure unsafe. _________________ Founder and Chairman Emeritus, ECMSAS

J.pickens, is there a good way to test the structural intergrity of the rear frame, carrier, etc to be safe? _________________ 1978 VW Campmobile Deluxe, 091, 2.5L Subaru Swap
