I told myself I wouldn't do a build thread on this car yet but I figure I better start documenting what I have done this far.
Draging her home
full inspection at the home shed
gave her a little bath
A little pigalle peaking out
More to follow. |

Cool Leo. It might not be a "resto" thread, but more of get it back on the road thread. At least you'll be able to enjoy it while collecting the bits and pieces you need. Notching wrong with that. Plus it allows you to address any issues that come up. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Thanks gentlemen, Not sure I will keep the fuchs on the car I have collected many sets of original Porsche wheels so I may switch them out but for now they will stay.
Agreed Bob, its been fun having something to work on as I wait for my notch to have its rust issues resolved.
Pitargue, after collecting Metal and patiently waiting for my notch to get back from metal fab I'm so glad this car is so solid. NO RUST REPAIR NEEDED on this fastback. the pan is just as clean as the square pan witch I am so great full for.
I will post more as I am able Its already had many upgrade. I will keep posting as this is where it all started for me. Appreciate all of your guys input.

Paint a black dash red like Tram does. I like the detailed Fuchs better than the polished out Fuchs. _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

If I could find the right dash full speaker grill non wrap around even one that needed restoration it would go to just dash for a restoration and color change along with my arm rest to make sure it all matches but I can't find one of them. I have some original cosmics I want to run on it. |

You don’t plan on removing that 90s tweed that’s glued onto everything?
Talking to people who were there back in the day,
Most of the time the pig stuff was removed or covered because it was out of fashion,
Not because it was worn or rotten.
I keep picturing taking your door panels or seats out,
Get them on the bench with a heat gun and maybe some Goof Off,
You might already have a nicely preserved pig interior in your car already!
(Perfectly preserved by a layer of Sewfine 90s tweed )
FWIW, I have a ‘67 core dash I can send you; cracked but all there.
Also have a nice shiny/straight front sub mount plate to replace that bent one.
PM me your address.
You just have to promise to give me first right of refusal if you ever sell! _________________ Bus Motor Build

Don't I wish Steve. Trust me I looked as soon as I found out it was a pigalle. No interior under the front or rear seats. The door cards are original but the red was peeled off before being coverd in the tweed. What I have is the arm rest front and back steering colum seat bases with knobs drivers seat base partially painted tan. And heater slider knobs passenger side in red driver's side red but painted tan and turn signal lever painted tan. If I could get that dash I would send it to just dash along with the armrest to have it all match and restored in red. I have talked to define here in Colorado and there willing to do the sets and door panels as close to og as they can get. I will pay pal you my address. |

Don't know if you ever went back far enough in my build thread to see what i went through to get the door panels and seat covers correct for '67?
TMI came through for me.
Took years,
And,
They only tooled up to get their heat-seaming right because it's correct for all cars from '67-up.
A long shot, but you might try.
They guy who took care of me was Dean. He's the GM IIRC.
Your '66 will be a real challenge, because it's the only year for the vertical pleats on the door panels,
And the only year with smooth sides/seamed middle on the seat covers.
I vaguely remember talking with Lenny Copp - WCCR at one time.
He was getting tooled up with new heat seaming equipment,
And was saying that he would be good to go for odd projects.
You might hit him up, as he really has good lines for other ACVWs.
Dag,
At the Classic in LA a couple years ago,
This one guy had several complete pig interiors lying there.
Said how everyone hated them back in the day,
And they got ripped out left and right, still in good shape!
So they're out there..
Did Nate Morse ever sell that set of pig seats he had?
Do you have a WTB ad up?
Ever hit up SMS auto fabrics? _________________ Bus Motor Build

There's this approach.. Do the pleats to mimic the heat seams.
Unless you get someone who's an ace with heat seaming equipment,
And they care and try,
You'll likely get something like this from a regular upholstery place.
They got the door panels close,
But they're pretty off with the seats..
(from the classifieds - did you see this one? Makes you wonder..)

Thanks for all the info. I'm sure it will save me hrs in research. I dought I will get anyone to heat seam the correct pleats but will just have them stiched in. I do have WTB add up in all the social media forums. And yes I have been through your whole build thread.
My dream would be to find a complete interior that some one took out back in the day. ( IF ONLY)
Again thanks for all the info and tips. |

It would be better if the seats where at least stitched right and the armrest where correct do you know anything about the dash they used? |

I think Tram and Russ said that VW just vinyl died the black pad red or blue or tan for the various "specialty" models. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
