I hope nobody will have a heart attack with this question.

I have installed a quick shifter on my 1965 samba bus and am very satisfied.
I'm done with trial and error on the og bd shifter. Pretty messy if you ask me.
And hence the reason why ....

No, I’m not kidding. I’m serious as a hot bone. (Thith cocaine schmellth awthome.) Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Seriously.

I would like to test the best quick shifter on my 1951 barndoor. Will save the og shifter of course.

The ball diam of the og bd shifter is 16mm vs. 26mm for the end ball of my 1964 shifter.

Have seen a variety of prices but would like to hear your experiences if any of you have tried.

Hi, i´m running a DDS Shifter in my 51.

You "just" have to cut the front end of the newer shifter rod and weld it on your BD shift rod. it´s good to have a spare one to get it correct angle and if you are cutting and welding, weld a screw thread into it too, so you can do some little adjustments later.

or you give these a try: https://www.csp-shop.de/getriebe/schaltstange-vorne-711-155-211v-27632a.html?cache=1555678065

Thanks.

Just for my understanding, is the DDS Shifter you are using modified? And if not is there a link?

I am looking for at standard 'off the shelf' bolt on quick shifter.

Something like the Gene Berg 6746R or other bus shifter brand with ball diameter 16mm (15.7 mm to be precise)

I want to see what after-market quick shifters other have chosen to do a price-performance evaluation.

I’ve always just run these old quick shift kits, they’re cheap! Makes a world of difference in the throw. Compared to those other more expensive options, I don’t know or have the experience.
There are plastic ones out there , I stick with the metal ones.
Just do some searches for quick shift here , there should be several forums.

I have the Vintage Speed shifter installed in my '54 and it's a shorter throw and pretty fantastic.

The reason for this is that the end ball is 15.8mm up to VIN ~501 xxx and 26mm thereafter.

Are there no other differences between the barndoor shifters and those post march 55? I am thinking of the distance from the gear shifter on the floor and the bench.
