When I bought my ‘60 bug 9 years ago, the previous owner had installed a set
of TMI seat covers. He did a decent job but many of the prongs were broken and you could see the seat tubing along with the torn vinyl.

A $4.99 purchase at Home Hardware of 1/8 inch plastic coated landscaping rod ( 3 - 42 inch rods) and few hours of time really improved the look. Not show but OK. I used 4 pieces of rod per seat (about 13 inches each) and used some rivets where the prongs had broken.

It looks a whole lot better than it did.

Nice work. It's only been two years since I did my seats but can't remember if I used wire in the sides but defiantly used wire at the bottom of the seat back.

Looks good. Appears that that seat still had a lot of the prongs still there in good condition. That’s a plus. One restoration video warned against bending them at all as there is a good chance they will break. Then you get into having to make new ones, or sheet metal screws and washers or rivets.

I noticed yesterday that my seats still had the factory tag paper in them. Looks pretty fragile though.

My rear seat base has the assemblers tag. Made one day before my 12th birthday.

Neat. Unfortunately my tag had no date., just the number 11 stamped on it.
