I wonder what % of cars are running with the original case, ie engine number.
My 1968 1500 is running with the original case (H0916032) after 500K+ miles. |

I have the original 1600cc DP engine from my 1971 VW Convertible; however that engine powers my 1970 sedan right now, and the 1971 Convertible runs 1835cc DP. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. You will see quite a few single port's! I think I may have found the original 36 horse which is still running with 92K on it in a 1960 bug I just bought. But if your rebuilding a 1300 or 1500 as a single port It would be a better engine in the long run if you used a dual port case and just make it a 1679cc. _________________ 1960 Beetle And 1679cc DP W-100 & Dual Zeniths! |

I keep on hereing that the H series case is a weak point of the vehicle. Why would you change (apart from adding case savers) to another. The H series case has served me well. |

Although everyone likes to show off the fact that their car has the original case, my *guess* is that 10% or less of the VW's from the late 60's still run with their original case. Replacement cases were cheap throughout the 80's, 90's, and 00's. They are expensive now.
My '70 came with a later dual port 1600 case (AK). I was hung up on this issue for a while, then I got over it. The doghouse shroud is the preferred tech, and I'm happy to have it. _________________ '91 Vanagon Westfalia

Currently the 68 does have the original numbers matching H case single port engine in it. Yes it was rebuilt, no line bore either, case savers yes and it is now a 1600cc up fro 1500. Here it is on a dyno. 48 HP to the wheels.

Soemtimes I wish my 69 autostick still had the original 1500cc case.

A little newer, but my 1974 standard has the original motor and transmission. Never been rebuilt, and runs like a champ. Daily driver. |

A small minority for sure. My ‘70 is on it’s third engine. My ‘60 has its original factory installed 36hp coming up on 80,000 miles (rebuild @ 70,000). _________________ 1960 beetle

Contrary to what the experts here say numbers matching all original cars with known history and documentation/ provenance will always be worth more to serious buyers. |

10%... maybe if you reverse those digits it might be closer. _________________ Andy T.

I do not know how to fix this. All I can say is it all works fine for me with what I use, Firefox. |

My 1968 1500 is running with the original case (H0928xxx) after 83K = miles. But the body is off it getting rid of the rust. In the family since new and close engine number to yours. VIN 118570xxx. German made I believe, Oz delivery. |

My 73 has the original engine and original transmission. But the engine's been rebuilt at least once. And the transmission will need to be rebuilt soon. Also have some original rusted out to go with it. When i hit the lottery... _________________ Daily driven....Slowly. |

Original, matching number engine case. It's been rebuilt at least twice. Best guess at original mileage is 200k on the case. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]
