Hi all,
Are there two different diameter sized plugs? If so what diameter are they and how many of each are required for a transaxle. From other photos it looks like there are three about the same O.D. on the right side of the shift housing and one smaller detent plug under the housing hidden behind a stud/nut? I'm missing some or all of 'em by feel on a June of 1959 Transporter, but I'm assuming that the transaxle case and plugs are the same across VW types in the early 1960's? I'm assuming these detent plugs started with the first "tunnel" trans case (as of May 19th, 1959 for the Transporters and a year or two later for the Type 1 Beetle). Thanks for any advice you can lend!

Thank you! After some digging around in the parts room I found that I had two complete sets of these (3 bigger and 1 smaller detent plugs each set) that I vaguely remember buying from buddy Ray Schubert way back when he ran "Volks Authority" in the Bay Area a long while ago! And I wondered about having missing springs and detent balls that might have fallen out without the plugs in place. Nice to know that those goodies can't come out by themselves without complete disassembly....
